I recently had an experience with Lucy, where I was able to finally feel seen and heard in a discussion with a difficult individual. That is to say that the way that Lucy conducts her sessions, I felt a shift away from hopelessness and towards a sense of safety that I would at least be given time to speak when I hadn't in the past without a mediator. Lucy did a wonderful job summarizing and paraphrasing for both parties so that we could stay on track while maintaining a caring neutrality. She helped me to understand my situation for what it was, gave me space to respond, and even brought to light things I wasn't aware of while shedding light on rational thoughts and questions that I had for the opposite party so that we could arrive at next steps (this conversation was 4 years in the making without progress until Lucy's session). She also has a gentle but solid countenance that blends with a level of professionalism that seeks solutions rather than stalling out within difficult exchanges. I appreciate how she took time to understand the scope and dynamics of my personal situation from an objective standpoint in a way that did not overly consume the time that was booked with her - so we had plenty of space to share. I highly recommend booking two hours of her time because it will give you a chance to fully experience a balanced conversation. I appreciated her neutral support as it was comforting and clarifying! Virginia Colin was an excellent choice for our mediator. She was a true professional who took the time to understand our divorce situation and draft a settlement. We saved thousands of dollars in expensive lawyer fees by using her. Whenever the mediation became tense, she immediately knew how to diffuse the situation. Her strengths are her objectivity, calm demeanor, and listening skills. After about 10-12 hours of mediation (we had two children, lots of investments/pensions, two cars, and a house!), we were able to come up with a settlement that worked for both of us. She’s the best!

I contacted the office yesterday and talked with Virginia Colin, giving her a quick synopsis of my family situation — that my husband and I wanted a divorce but decided mediation was the smartest way to avoid the high cost of lawyer fees. My ex-husband and I used Colin Family Mediation Group, and it was the best decision we could have made in a very emotional and financially draining process. I don’t think divorce is ever easy, but Rick and Ellice certainly saved us from what was looking like a complete nightmare.
